According to Starwars.com, the next installment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy will release on December 15, 2017.
The news came today, Jan 20th, only a few hours after it was reported that director Rian Johnson said the shooting schedule would be pushed so that changes to the script could be made. These changes are reportedly to flesh out the new heroes, Rey, Finn, and Poe, while lessening the role of two new, unnamed characters. The reason given was to build on the strengths of The Force Awakens.
The December 2017 date will put it in competition with Speilberg’s Ready Player One, and James Cameron’s Avatar sequel.
